In Fall 2006 Fox Creek Park opened its gates to the community, with magnificent plants, fragrant flowers, stone paths, relaxed seating and beautiful trees. Over 1000 man-hours have been logged from local & suburban residents and
$25, 000.00 dollars in private funds, donation and in kind services.
Since opening, JEBA has hosted several events at Fox Creek Park including a Harvest Celebration supported by local block clubs and community residents.
District PlantingsCongratulations to JEBA!
Sheila Jackson, Director of Clean and Safe Initiatives and Cevan Castle, JEBA Board Member and master gardener, received the distinguished
Keep Michigan Beautiful award for the work in Fox Creek Park. The park was previously a vacant lot covered with waste materials and rubbish. Hard work and dedication, transformed this blight into a beautiful garden with stone paths, fragrant flowers and a view of Fox Creek.
In addition to special projects, JEBA maintains 60 planters located along Jefferson Avenue. Flowers are generously donated from business owners and nurseries within the JEBA community. Many Clean & Safe projects are carried out through the work of our Summer Youth Program. Students within the community are selected to work on JEBA projects. The curriculum includes resume-writing, interview skills and beautification projects. In 2006, JEBA created the Diana Stewart Award for most distinguished student worker. Named after JEBA’s first Executive Director Diana Stewart, this monetary award is funded by JEBA partners, funders and board members.
