In 2024, 1,751 intimate partner violence cases were reported in Detroit's 5th & 7th Precincts - within our neighborhoods.

These aren't just numbers, they represent women, men, and families trapped in fear, searching for a way out. Through our Domestic Violence Advocacy Program, we walk survivors toward safety, dignity, and hope.

Federal funding cuts have halted services that survivors depend on. Help us raise $125,000 to bring them back.

In 2013, Jefferson East, Inc. (JEI) and the Wayne State University Center for Urban Studies formed a partnership in response to a report that showed nearly 50% of all aggravated assault cases in Detroit are classified as intimate partner violence, or domestic violence.

JEI has since funded two full-time Domestic Violence Advocates (DVAs) embedded within the 5th & 7th Precincts. Since 2013, JEI and the AmeriCorps Urban Advocacy Corps, have provided over 20,370 Detroiters with domestic violence support and resources. This partnership is made possible through a $250,000 annual investment funded by JEI.

Our DVAs are trained professionals who work hand-in-hand with survivors, helping them secure protection orders (PPOs), access counseling and safe housing, navigate the justice system, and gain access to other critical resources.

They're more than advocates, they're lifelines.

Trained Advocates. Real Protection. Real Change.

"As a victim, I was told I would probably never walk again. As a survivor, I walked

by faith. As an advocate, I am so grateful

I have a rewarding opportunity to assist many to walk into a new destiny or direction. This program should be available everywhere. It’s needed!”
