Building resilient homes, one repair at a time - even in summer heat

At JEI, we believe every Detroiter deserves a safe, healthy, and energy-efficient home. For years, our weatherization and home repair services have supported hundreds of families in making critical repairs—reducing energy bills, preventing displacement, and ensuring homes are safe year-round.

And while our Energy Efficiency Program is currently on pause—with the waitlist closed until 2026 due to overwhelming need and limited grant funding—our commitment has not wavered.

We are still here. Still fighting for resilient homes. Still working toward resilient neighborhoods.

And always—resilient humans.

This summer, the heat can be just as harmful as the cold. A key tip for making your home more resilient in hot weather? Seal your home’s air leaks. Gaps around doors and windows can let in hot air, making your home less comfortable and raising energy costs. Simple weather stripping or caulking can go a long way in keeping cool air in—and your utility bills down.

But here’s the reality: Too many of our neighbors don’t have the means or mobility to make even small home improvements. That’s why your support matters more than ever.

💡 Whether you’re a local resident who wants to pay it forward or a corporation ready to make a community investment, your donation—large or small—helps us continue this critical work.

Together, we can keep our neighbors safely housed and help Detroit families thrive right where they are.
